HOW TO ADD LASH EXTENSIONS

Lash extensions are attached singularly to give you a fuller, longer eyelash look. These are attached at the base of your natural eyelash. This process takes about two hours, with touch-ups recommended every two to three weeks. Touch-ups only take about an hour. Adding professional eyelash extension is not painful. While you may be a little nervous with tweezers so close to your eyes, you should not be experiencing any discomfort. If you are, mention it to your professional aesthetician. Your eyes are closed, however, during the process so you shouldn’t be bothered by it.

HOW LONG DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

Since eyelash extensions are attached to existing eyelashes, they fall off once you lose your natural eyelash. Typically, you shed about 20 eyelashes a week. This results in your eyelash extensions lasting between six and eight weeks.

EYELASH EXTENSIONS ARE PERFECTLY SAFE WHEN IN THE HANDS OF A PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN OR AESTHETICIAN

There is definitely an art form to lash extensions. It takes an experienced technician and lots of practice to apply the right length of eyelash extensions in the correct places. An inexperienced technician can use too much adhesive, resulting in clumped eyelashes. Another common error seen with inexperienced eyelash technicians is gluing a single lash extension to multiple natural lashes, which results in clumping and a possible broken natural lash. If this happens too often, your eyelashes can have missing spots in places since you’ll have to wait for them to grow back naturally to fill the space.

It’s a good idea to research your eyelash extension technician. To find an expert eyelash technician studio such as DESEYENER® Studio in New York City, visit Instagram and Facebook for reviews and before and after photos. You can even call and confirm the day spa or aesthetician studio is licensed.

One thing to note: some adhesives contain formaldehyde, which can trigger allergic reactions in some people. Make sure your eyelash extension technician uses a medical grade adhesive that is free from formaldehyde and other irritants that could irritate your skin and/or eye. If for some reason during your eyelash extension appointment you feel a burning or tearing sensation, stop immediately. Make sure your eyelash technician knows what he or she is doing, including using medical grade materials.

SHOULD THE EYELASH APPLICATION CAUSE ANY DISCOMFORT?

Absolutely not! If you feel discomfort afterwords that means that the application was done incorrectly.

1. Tingling means that hair extensions are too close to the skin and it causes irritation of sensitive skin of the eyelids.

2. Heaviness means that too many hair extensions were applied (may damage their own lashes)

3. Clumps mean that probably too much glue was used. It causes discomfort and itchiness.

My advice is better to go to your lash extensions technician and have extensions taken off because this issue will cause loss of your own lashes (each lash has a different cycle of growth, and if there is bonding, one lash will grow faster and another — slower, and that one which grows faster will pull out the lash that grows slower). Be aware! Choose your technician carefully.

WILL I NEED TO WEAR MASCARA WITH MY EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

It is generally recommended not to wear mascara with our fake eyelashes — the reason being is that mascara can clump awkwardly on your lash extensions, leaving you with not the best look. However, if you absolutely must, DESEYENER® Studio recommends applying a water-based mascara so it is easy to remove without damaging your fake eyelashes.

CARE OF YOUR EYELASH EXTENSIONS

You’ll want to avoid getting your eyelash extensions wet within the first 24 to 48 hours of application. This gives the glue plenty of time to set. Also, avoid makeup completely if you can. If you do choose to wear makeup, stay clear of eye products, especially ones with oil, mascara, and eyeliner, and especially if they contain cream.

You’ll want to be extremely careful not to snag your eyelashes so avoid cotton swabs and unnecessary rubbing, which you can do a lot subconsciously without thinking about it. Sleeping can be a bit challenging, especially if you sleep on your stomach or your side. DESEYENER® Studio recommends investing in a silk or satin pillowcase, which will increase your lash retention rate.

Eyelash extensions can flake off in the first few days after application, which usually means something interfered with the glue bonding process.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR EYELASH EXTENSIONS

It is possible to clean your eyelash extensions. DESEYENER® Studio wants to remind you to take extreme care in all that you do concerning your eyelashes. Most studios or spas that your get your eyelash extensions at will sell oil-free lash cleanser that is specifically made for eyelash extensions. Other cleaners weaken the glue bond and can cause lash extensions to fall off prematurely.

WHAT ABOUT COLORED EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Colored eyelash extensions are insanely fun! Furthermore, colored eyelash extensions can accent your eye color, drawing even more attention to your already beautiful eyes. Great color combinations include using purple eyelash extensions to accent your green eyes or make your brown eyes appear larger and green eyelashes will make your hazel eyes a rainbow of color. If you choose colored lash extensions, be prepared to add an extra 30 minutes to your appointment as placing colored lash extensions takes a bit more thought in order to maximize your look.

One cool fact is that are eyes are not completely symmetrical. The placement on your face can be different, your eye color can be different, your eyelashes can be more dense on one eye over the other, and your eyelashes can even grow in different patterns. Eyelash extensions in general will draw attention to these tiny imperfections, but colored eyelash extensions will accent the subtle differences in your eye color especially. Hence, it takes a skilled eyelash extension technician to even out your eyelashes to make these imperfections perfect!

One final note: normally eyelash extensions are only applied on the upper lid. However, the lower lid for bottom lash extensions has now become popular, which is a great way to add balance to your look.
